Discover Restaurant Und Camping Muntanela Radons

Tucked high in the Swiss Alps at alte Bergstation, 7464 Radons, Switzerland, Restaurant Und Camping Muntanela Radons feels like one of those rare places you almost want to keep to yourself. I first visited after a long hike above Savognin, when the mountain air had sharpened my appetite and the panoramic views over the Surses valley seemed almost unreal. What I expected was a simple alpine hut. What I found was a warm, welcoming mountain restaurant with a well-curated menu, comfortable camping facilities, and a level of hospitality that rivals some of the best-reviewed alpine diners in Graubünden.

The location alone is worth the journey. Sitting at over 1,800 meters above sea level, this alpine restaurant is surrounded by open meadows in summer and pristine snowfields in winter. According to data from Switzerland Tourism, mountain destinations like Radons see a steady increase in visitors seeking nature-based experiences and culinary authenticity. That trend makes sense when you sit on the terrace here, breathing in clean alpine air while watching hikers, cyclists, and families arrive with big smiles and bigger appetites.

The menu leans into regional specialties, and that’s where this place truly shines. During my visit, I ordered capuns, a traditional Graubünden dish made with Swiss chard leaves wrapped around spätzle-style dough and cured meat, topped with melted alpine cheese. The flavors were rich but balanced, hearty without being overwhelming. My companion chose a rösti topped with a perfectly fried egg and local mountain cheese. The ingredients tasted fresh and locally sourced, which aligns with Switzerland’s strong farm-to-table culture. In fact, the Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture reports that a significant percentage of Swiss farms focus on sustainable and regional production. You can taste that commitment on every plate here.

Beyond the classics, the menu includes seasonal soups, grilled sausages, crisp salads, and homemade desserts. The apple strudel I tried was served warm, with just the right amount of cinnamon and a generous spoon of vanilla sauce. It’s the kind of dessert that makes you slow down and savor the moment. Reviews from other diners often mention the same thing: generous portions, fair prices, and consistently good quality. That consistency builds trust, especially in remote mountain locations where options can be limited.

The camping area next to the restaurant adds another layer to the experience. I spent one night there in late summer, and the setup was surprisingly comfortable. Clean sanitary facilities, clearly marked pitches, and easy access to the restaurant make it ideal for families and solo travelers alike. The process is straightforward: you check in at the restaurant, choose your pitch, and you’re free to enjoy the surroundings. In the evening, many campers gather on the terrace for dinner, creating a friendly, communal atmosphere. It feels safe, organized, and thoughtfully managed.

What stands out most is the service. The staff greet guests with genuine warmth, switching easily between German, Italian, and English. In my conversations with the team, it was clear they know the region well. They offered hiking tips, explained the origins of certain dishes, and even shared insights about winter ski routes. That kind of knowledge reflects real expertise, not scripted hospitality.

Health and safety standards are also taken seriously. Switzerland maintains strict food safety regulations, and establishments in Graubünden are regularly inspected under cantonal guidelines. While I didn’t review official inspection reports myself, the cleanliness of the dining room, kitchen areas visible from the counter, and camping facilities gave me confidence. Everything looked well-maintained and up to date.

Of course, weather can influence your experience. On cloudy days, the panoramic views may be limited, and access roads can be challenging in heavy snow. Still, that’s part of the alpine reality. Checking local forecasts and road conditions before visiting is always wise.

If you’re exploring Radons, hiking above Savognin, or simply searching for authentic Swiss mountain cuisine in a peaceful setting, this alpine diner and campground delivers far more than expected. Between the scenic location, thoughtfully prepared menu, comfortable camping, and heartfelt service, it’s easy to see why so many guests leave glowing reviews and plan their return before they’ve even finished dessert.

  • Lovely, small, family friendly campsite in Radons in the Val Surses valley. The staff is very friendly and the restaurant has good food. Lot of area for kids to play. Also has a library room with a Foosball table, where anyone can chill in when the weather is not good. Lot of lovely hikes in the region.
